Odisha and Madhya Pradesh Pitch Chemical Hubs at India Chem 2026

Chief Ministers of Odisha and Madhya Pradesh promoted state investment opportunities in chemicals and petrochemicals during the India Chem 2026 exhibition in Mumbai.

Chief Ministers from Odisha and Madhya Pradesh promoted their states as emerging chemical and petrochemical hubs during the India Chem 2026 exhibition in Mumbai on October 22. The event, organized by the Union Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers and FICCI, supports India's national goal of building a one-trillion-dollar chemical industry by 2040.

Mohan Charan Majhi, Chief Minister of Odisha, announced a strategic shift to transform the state from a mineral-driven economy into a chemical-driven industrial hub. He highlighted investment proposals exceeding Rs 22.50 lakh crore, including a USD 30 billion MoU with International Bonding Company. To attract investors, the state is offering GST benefits and capital assistance for projects in green hydrogen, green ammonia, and chlorochemicals, as well as fertilizer production in Talcher.

Simultaneously, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced the development of Bina as a new petrochemical hub. He noted that a downstream petrochemical unit in Bina is expected to produce over 2.2 million tonnes of products annually for the pharmaceutical, textile, and automobile sectors. Yadav promoted the state's availability of land and power, citing the establishment of plastic parks in Tamod and Bilowa to attract further investment.

Both leaders emphasized the role of federal support, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already laid foundation stones for key projects in both states, including a technical-grade ammonium nitrate project in Lakhanpur, Odisha, and the petrochemical unit in Bina.
