Xi Jinping Leads 90th Anniversary Commemoration of Long March

President Xi Jinping led a grand assembly in Beijing to honor the 90th anniversary of the Long March and call for national rejuvenation.

President Xi Jinping led a grand assembly at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on October 22, 2026, to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Long March victory. During the event, Xi paid tribute to revolutionary leaders Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, and Zhu De, characterizing the 1934-1936 strategic retreat of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army as an "earth-shattering revolutionary feat."

The commemoration honored the endurance of approximately 200,000 marchers who traveled 12,500 km to escape the Kuomintang regime, noting that only about 57,000 survived. Xi emphasized that this victory was a decisive moment that enabled the Chinese revolution to proceed and remains a driving force for the current goal of national rejuvenation.

Xi called for the Communist Party of China, the military, and the people to carry forward the "great spirit of the Long March" to achieve the Second Centenary Goal of building a great modern socialist country. He outlined a "new Long March" focused on advancing high-quality development, reinforcing the armed forces to world-class standards, and maintaining absolute Party leadership. To preserve this legacy, China has developed the Long March National Cultural Park across 15 provincial-level regions to promote red tourism and provide historical inspiration for contemporary challenges.
