Iran Attacks US Base in Kuwait Amid Failed Diplomacy

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched a drone attack on a United States military base in Kuwait on August 4, 2026. In response to these developments, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Jarrah Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah held a phone call on August 3 to discuss the repercussions of the ongoing war between the United States and Iran.

Amidst the violence, President Donald Trump claimed he had paused planned military strikes to provide a "last chance" for a diplomatic agreement regarding denuclearization and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. He asserted that negotiations were beginning on August 3, reportedly with support from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar. However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei denied that Tehran was engaged in any direct or indirect negotiations with Washington, and Pakistani sources stated no venue or date for talks had been finalized.
