Uttar Pradesh Renames Noida International Airport After Narendra Modi

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet renamed the Noida International Airport to Narendra Modi International Airport to honor the Prime Minister's 25 years of public service.

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved a resolution on October 9, 2026, to rename the Noida International Airport at Jewar as the Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar. Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, announced the decision in Lucknow, stating the move honors Prime Minister Narendra Modi for completing 25 years of continuous service as a head of government in Gujarat and at the center.

If implemented, the facility will be the first Indian airport named after a sitting Prime Minister. Developed through a public-private partnership with Zurich Airport International AG, the airport was inaugurated in March 2026 and began commercial flights on June 15. State officials, including Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and Minister Rakesh Sachan, described the decision as historic and unanimous, framing the airport as a future national aviation hub.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticized the renaming, claiming the administration is renaming assets because their power is waning. The state government defended the move as a tribute to the Prime Minister's commitment to the region's development and the success of the double-engine governance model.
