Narendra Modi Releases 24th PM-KISAN Installment to 9.34 Crore Farmers
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released over Rs 18,680 crore in income support to millions of farmer families nationwide through the PM-KISAN scheme.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the 24th installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on Friday from Bhildi in Gujarat's Banaskantha district. The disbursement totaled more than Rs 18,680 crore, benefiting over 9.34 crore farmer families across India. The funds are intended to help agricultural households manage sowing season expenses, purchase seeds and fertilizers, and reduce reliance on debt.
Prior to the national release, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that more than 18 lakh farmers in Assam would benefit from the latest installment. Sarma noted that such support is critical for building a resilient agricultural ecosystem as the world prepares for a potential foodgrain crisis.
Gujarat Minister Jitu Vaghani reported that the first 23 installments of the scheme had previously disbursed over Rs 4.47 lakh crore to more than 11 crore farmer families. The assistance is considered especially critical in regions like Maharashtra, which is currently facing drought conditions. Reports indicate the central government intends to extend the scheme until 2031.
