President Bola Tinubu Launches Re-election Campaign for 2027
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will launch his re-election campaign in Kaduna on October 24, facing a realigned opposition in the January 16, 2027, election.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will seek a second term in Nigeria's presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027. Running on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tinubu will officially launch his re-election campaign in Kaduna on October 24. This follows an inaugural meeting of the APC Presidential Campaign Council on October 14 at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja.
Senator Abdulaziz Yari, Director-General of the campaign council, stated that the campaign will focus on the administration's economic record rather than new promises. Following the Kaduna launch, the campaign plans visits to Port Harcourt and Maiduguri. Yari expressed confidence in a landslide victory, asserting that Tinubu has the necessary political support across northern and southern Nigeria to defeat his rivals.
Tinubu faces a realigned opposition, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is contesting under the African Democratic Congress, and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, who is running under the Nigeria Democratic Congress with Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has listed 18 candidates and reported a National Register of Voters totaling 103 million. While the APC emphasizes infrastructure projects like the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, opposition strategies focus on consolidating support in the North-West and South-South regions.
