Peter Obi Challenges Tinubu to Debate Amid Ballot Dispute

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress and former governor of Anambra State, alleged that the Nigerian government is working to prevent him from appearing on the 2027 presidential ballot. Speaking at Madonna University, Obi challenged all presidential aspirants, including President Bola Tinubu, to a public debate to present their visions for the country.

These claims follow a legal setback in Lokoja, where a Federal High Court overturned a previous order requiring the Independent National Electoral Commission to register the Nigeria Democratic Congress as a political party. Despite the ruling, Obi stated that efforts by reactionary forces to stop his candidacy would fail and urged citizens to secure their Permanent Voter Cards to ensure the will of the people prevails.

In response to Obi's political activities, Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Tinubu, criticized the opposition leader via X. Bwala accused Obi of contradicting his own previous policy stances on fuel subsidies, state police, and foreign exchange unification, arguing that the current administration has implemented the very measures Obi once advocated. Bwala asserted that Obi lacks a clear vision for governance and expresses anger whenever the country makes progress.
