Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited Bahrain to review strategic partnerships and discuss regional security following Iranian attacks on the kingdom.
Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited Bahrain on July 6-7, 2026, as part of a multi-nation tour of the Gulf including Qatar, Kuwait, and Oman. During the visit, Jaishankar met with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa to review the strategic partnership between the two nations and discuss regional and international security.
In meetings with Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, the leaders focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in industry, the digital economy, food security, and financial and logistics services. Both parties committed to using the Joint Ministerial Committee to implement existing agreements and diversify trade and investment.
Bahraini leadership expressed appreciation for India's solidarity following "criminal Iranian attacks" involving missiles and drones, and for India's support of measures to preserve Bahraini sovereignty. Jaishankar congratulated Bahrain on its role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2026-2027 and met with the Indian diaspora to thank the Bahraini leadership for ensuring their safety. Following his Gulf engagements, Jaishankar is scheduled to travel to New York on July 13 to launch India's campaign for a UN Security Council tenure for 2028-29.
