Donald Trump Rallies in Iowa to Save GOP Majorities
President Donald Trump campaigned in Sioux City, Iowa, promoting an $8 billion farmer aid package to shore up support ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
President Donald Trump held a campaign rally at the Sioux Gateway Airport in Sioux City, Iowa, on October 22 to energize the Republican base ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. The visit is part of a multi-state tour including stops in Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Mississippi, Texas, and Ohio, as Republicans fight to maintain narrow majorities in the U.S. House and Senate.
During the event, Trump promoted an $8 billion economic aid package for farmers to mitigate the impact of high diesel and fertilizer prices. These costs, linked to conflicts in Iran and Ukraine, contributed to Iowa recording the weakest annual growth rate in the U.S. in 2025. Despite the aid, farm bankruptcies rose 220 percent last year, leading the Iowa Farmers Union to break tradition by endorsing the Democratic congressional slate.
Republican candidates in Iowa face a difficult environment due to inflation and the Iran war. U.S. Representative Ashley Hinson, running for a Senate seat vacated by Joni Ernst, has called for an "immediate end" to the Iran conflict. Other GOP representatives, including Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn, have voted to limit the president's war powers. Meanwhile, Democrats are gaining traction in polls for the governorship and Senate, focusing on the benefits of divided government and rising living costs.
Trump used the rally to attack Democratic lawmaker Ilhan Omar, suggesting she resign following a federal raid on her home. The president's efforts come as his job approval ratings have declined to between 31% and 37.8%.
