Kerala CM Condemns FIR Against Rahul Gandhi Over Ritual
Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan condemned an FIR filed against Rahul Gandhi following demands for an investigation into a purification ritual in Uttarakhand.
Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan condemned a First Information Report registered by the Uttarakhand Police against Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. The legal action follows Gandhi's public demands for an investigation into an alleged purification ritual conducted at the Ramlila Ground in Haldwani after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge addressed a rally at the site.
Satheesan characterized the FIR as an attempt to criminalise dissent and silence concerns regarding equality and caste discrimination. He stated that political disagreement must be answered politically, not through intimidation and misuse of the law.
In response to the police action, the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee organized a protest march in Thiruvananthapuram. The march proceeded from the Palayam Martyrs' Column to the AG's Office to oppose the FIR and highlight discrimination against Dalit leaders.
