Trump Promotes Child Investment Accounts During Georgia Visit

President Donald Trump traveled to Cobb County, Georgia, on July 22 to promote Trump Accounts, a federal child investment program launched on July 4. Speaking at Wheeler High School, Trump highlighted the program's design to provide children under 18 with a financial foundation, including $1,000 in seed money for children born during his second term. These accounts allow for annual contributions of up to $5,000, which are invested in index funds for use once the child reaches adulthood.

The United States Department of the Treasury reported that 6.5 million accounts have been opened. Despite the high enrollment, some parents have reported delays in receiving the initial government deposits. Trump appeared alongside Republican candidates Rick Jackson and Mike Collins, and utilized the visit to potentially address election security.

Opponents of the program argue that the enabling legislation required funding cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Medicaid. However, supporters and administration officials maintain the program provides a critical nest egg for children, and Governor Brian Kemp confirmed that Georgia foster children are eligible for the investment program.
