Nasarawa Governor Credits Tinubu Reforms for 300% Funding Increase

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Alhaji Sule announced that the state's monthly allocation from the Federation Account has increased to between 14 billion and 16 billion naira, up from an average of 3.8 billion to 4.5 billion naira prior to 2023. Sule attributed this more than 300 percent increase to the economic reforms of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, specifically the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange rates.

During a visit from the Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Tour in Lafia, Sule stated that these expanded revenues allowed the state to fund approximately 90 billion naira in infrastructure projects without resorting to bank loans. Key developments include flyovers in Keffi and Karu, the dualization of the Akwanga township and Shendam roads, and the Kilema-Tudun Amba Bridge. The governor also credited Minister of Solid Minerals Development Dele Alake for policies that led to the establishment of Africa's largest lithium mining and processing facility in the state.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, led the media tour to verify that resources freed by federal reforms were properly deployed. Onanuga praised the administration's decisions to float the naira and end multiple exchange rates, noting that while these reforms caused initial hardship, they strengthened the fiscal capacity of sub-national governments. The tour inspected several completed works, including a state secretariat, a 1-Megawatt solar farm, and the 16 km Makurdi bypass.
