Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi Defends Absence From G7 Meeting
Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi defended her absence from a last-minute G7 online meeting, noting that other world leaders also missed the call.
Sanae Takaichi defended her absence from a Group of Seven online meeting on Monday evening following public criticism of her schedule. The Japanese Prime Minister stated via social media that the meeting was arranged at the last minute by France, the current chair, and allowed for the use of substitute representatives.
Takaichi noted that other leaders were also absent from the call, including United Kingdom Prime Minister Burnham and European Council President Costa. While Takaichi maintained that the meeting's timing and rules permitted her absence, local media reported that she remained at her residence and had no other appointments during the time of the meeting.
