US Updates Middle East Travel Warnings Amid Houthi Strikes

The US State Department updated travel advisories for several Middle Eastern countries following Houthi attacks on Saudi infrastructure and reports of Iranian plots against US officials.

The US State Department updated travel advisories for approximately a dozen Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Oman, citing the threat of regional spillover from Houthi attacks. These updates follow a wave of Houthi strikes on Saudi aviation and energy infrastructure, including an October 10 attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh that killed at least 12 people.

In response to the escalating threat, the US ordered nonessential staff and families to depart the US Embassy in Saudi Arabia, while other regional embassies continue to operate under restricted status. Houthi forces also claimed responsibility for ballistic missile strikes on military targets in Aden, Yemen, near the international airport.

Intelligence reports indicate that Iran has substantially increased efforts to target US officials in the region. Amid these tensions, President Donald Trump suggested the possibility of resuming major combat operations against Iran following the November 3 midterm elections.
