Trump Immigration Policies May Cut Social Security Benefits

A new economic report warns that Donald Trump's anti-immigration policies could reduce annual Social Security benefits for elderly Americans by an average of $2,152 by 2034.

A report conducted by Economic Insights and Research Consulting warns that Donald Trump's anti-immigration policies could reduce annual Social Security benefits for elderly Americans by an average of $2,152, or 8.6%, by 2034. The study, commissioned by America’s Voice, attributes this projected decline to the loss of payroll taxes from unauthorized immigrants and a broader economic downturn following the exodus of 1.2 million foreign-born workers over the last two years.

The findings indicate that the crackdown has triggered labor shortages and price spikes in the agricultural and construction sectors, resulting in higher costs for food and single-family homes. The report further estimates that native-born Americans lost between 51,000 and 297,000 jobs by September 2025 as a direct result of these policy changes. States including California, Nevada, New Jersey, Florida, and New York have been particularly hard hit by construction declines.

Government officials have echoed these concerns regarding the long-term viability of the retirement system. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano have warned that lower-than-expected net immigration is threatening the financial stability of Social Security benefits.
