India and Singapore Deepen Ties at 4th Ministerial Roundtable

India and Singapore held the 4th India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) on August 20, 2026, in Singapore to advance their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the Indian delegation—including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal—met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong to review a strategic roadmap unveiled in September 2025.

The talks focused on six primary pillars: advanced manufacturing, connectivity, digitalization, healthcare and medicine, skills development, and sustainability. The engagement resulted in two memorandums of understanding regarding food safety and maritime heritage, as well as a letter of intent between the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India and the Info-Communications Media Development Authority of Singapore concerning telecommunications and broadcasting regulations.

Parallel to the roundtable, S. Jaishankar and Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan discussed geopolitical developments and laid the foundation stone for the new Chancery complex of the High Commission of India in Singapore. Minister Goyal also led a 70-member business delegation to promote Indian agri-food exports and explore collaborations in fintech and AI.

The meetings highlight a deepening economic bond, with Singapore serving as India's largest source of foreign direct investment in FY 2025-26, totaling $19.8 billion, and its largest trading partner within ASEAN with bilateral trade reaching $36.1 billion.
