Poll Shows U.S. Adults Confused by Democratic Socialist Policies

A nationwide poll conducted by Reuters and Ipsos among 1,248 adults reveals that 47 percent of respondents do not understand the policies of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Only 27 percent of participants believe democratic socialists have some good ideas, a level of support that mirrors the public's view of MAGA Republicans.

This public confusion persists even as DSA-aligned candidates have secured primary election victories over centrist Democrats in California, Colorado, and New York City. In New York, Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a DSA member, endorsed other candidates from the organization during the June primaries.

President Donald Trump and his administration have countered the movement's growth by characterizing democratic socialists and other Democrats as "hardcore, godless communists." To support these claims, the administration released a 100-page report alleging ties between left-wing advocacy groups in the United States and Cuba.
