Trump Investment Accounts Sold ExxonMobil Stock Before Iran Ceasefire

Donald Trump's investment accounts sold up to $1 million in ExxonMobil stock hours before he announced an Iran war ceasefire and shares dropped.

Financial disclosures reviewed by CBS News reveal that investment accounts belonging to Donald Trump sold between $500,000 and $1 million in ExxonMobil stock on April 7, 2026. The transactions occurred the same day the president announced a ceasefire in the Iran war and hours before ExxonMobil shares opened 6.5% lower the following morning.

These trades were part of a broader pattern of activity involving oil and gas companies, including Chevron and ConocoPhillips, during the first half of the year. While Trump later criticized oil companies for making "too much money" and demanded cuts to fuel prices, Democratic members of the United States Congressional Joint Economic Committee estimated that his energy holdings increased in value by mid-August.

The White House defended the transactions, stating that Trump does not direct the trades. The administration asserted that third-party financial institutions manage the portfolio using computer-based models to ensure independence.
