Xi Jinping Marks 90th Anniversary of Long March Victory
President Xi Jinping called for a new Long March to achieve national rejuvenation during a commemoration of the Red Army's 1936 victory in Beijing.
Xi Jinping addressed a gathering in Beijing on October 22 to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Red Army's Long March victory. He linked the historical military trek, which spanned more than 10 provinces from 1934 to 1936, to China's contemporary political and social objectives.
Xi attributed the original victory to the leadership of the Communist Party of China and the core position of Mao Zedong. He emphasized the necessity of integrating Marxism with China's specific realities to guide the nation's current trajectory.
During the event, Xi called for new achievements on a "new Long March." He declared a commitment to the Second Centenary Goal, which aims to build China into a great modern socialist country and advance national rejuvenation through a Chinese path to modernization.
