Prime Minister Andy Burnham and the Department for Work and Pensions announced the return of annual Winter Fuel Payments for autumn and winter 2026.
Andy Burnham and the Department for Work and Pensions announced the return of the annual Winter Fuel Payments for autumn and winter 2026. The payments aim to support eligible residents during the colder months, with the maximum available payment set at £300.
Payment amounts vary based on age, living circumstances, and benefit eligibility. Individuals born before September 28, 1946, are eligible for up to £300. Those born between September 28, 1946, and June 27, 1960, may receive as little as £100, depending on whether they or a cohabitant receive Pension Credit, Universal Credit, or income-related Employment and Support Allowance.
The Department for Work and Pensions will distribute the funds directly into the bank accounts used for existing benefit payments. Eligibility for the program will be determined by the recipients' circumstances between September 21 and September 27, 2026.
