Lok Sabha Issues Privilege Notice to Rahul Gandhi

The Lok Sabha Secretariat ordered Rahul Gandhi to respond by August 28 to breach of privilege complaints regarding remarks made about Home Minister Amit Shah.

The Lok Sabha Secretariat has issued a formal notice to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, demanding a response by August 28 regarding two complaints of breach of privilege and contempt of the House. The notices stem from a debate on the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, during which Gandhi is alleged to have used derogatory and unparliamentary language against Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

BJP Members of Parliament Sanjay Jaiswal and Anurag Singh Thakur filed the complaints, arguing that Gandhi leveled grave allegations without providing the advance notice required under Rule 353. The complainants assert that these actions violated parliamentary decorum and the dignity of the House.

Sanjay Jaiswal has specifically requested that the Speaker expunge the remarks and issue a caution to Gandhi to maintain the standards of dignity expected of a Member of Parliament.
