Palantir Denies Kill Switch After Starlink Disruptions
Palantir Technologies reassured European allies that its Maven AI platform lacks a remote kill switch following reports of U.S. interference with Ukraine's satellite services.
Palantir Technologies has informed European allies that its Maven Smart System AI platform contains no kill switch allowing the company or the United States government to remotely disable the software. The reassurance comes after Ukraine accused Washington of deliberately slowing Starlink and Starshield services on October 13, sparking fears among NATO members that U.S. technology could be used as political leverage.
Palantir Technologies executive Louis Mosley provided these guarantees in Brussels, stating there is no ability for the company or the government to switch off the system. The controversy involves conflicting claims regarding satellite control; Elon Musk stated that Starshield systems are owned and controlled by the U.S. government, while President Donald Trump denied any involvement in the disruptions.
The incident has accelerated efforts toward technological sovereignty in Europe. France has developed its own defense data ecosystem, Arcadia, to mitigate reliance on U.S. systems, and Germany has opted out of the Maven system entirely to protect its national datasets.
