Iran Condemns Saudi Arabia Pakistan Turkey Defense Pact

Iran warned of undesirable regional consequences after Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey activated a trilateral defense pact to counter Houthi attacks.

The Government of Iran condemned a trilateral defense pact between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey that became operational on October 5. The alliance was activated in response to an increase in Houthi missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi infrastructure. Turkey and Pakistan have already confirmed the start of measures to support Saudi Arabia.

Iranian officials warned that any intervention in Yemen by the alliance could lead to "undesirable consequences for the region." Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the agreement would not constrain Iran and urged neighboring countries to pursue self-reliance. While some Iranian lawmakers dismissed the pact as a symbolic political agreement, others argued that Pakistan's participation undermines its position as a neutral mediator between Tehran and Washington.
