Israel Strikes Southern Lebanon After Signing US-Brokered Peace Deal
Israel launched a drone strike in southern Lebanon shortly after signing a U.S.-brokered framework agreement to end hostilities with Hezbollah.
An Israeli drone strike killed one person and injured two others in the town of Nabatieh al-Fawqa in southern Lebanon on Saturday. The attack targeted the Farah Amusement Park junction just one day after Israel and Lebanon signed a U.S.-brokered framework agreement in Washington aimed at establishing lasting security.
Under the terms of the preliminary agreement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated the Israel Defense Forces would withdraw from positions north and south of the Litani River, transferring control to the Lebanese Armed Forces. However, the deal includes a proposal to disarm Hezbollah, which the group has rejected.
Lebanese Health Ministry reports indicate that since March 2, 2026, Israeli operations across southern Lebanon, the Bekaa Valley, and Beirut have killed at least 4,246 people and injured 12,190. These operations were prompted by initial missile and drone attacks launched by Hezbollah against Israel.
