Gun Owners of America Conduct First Unregistered Suppressor Transfers

Gun Owners of America and Silencer Shop conducted the first lawful transfers of firearm suppressors without National Firearms Act registration since 1934. The transfers took place shortly after midnight on August 13, 2026, at a Silencer Shop storefront in Leander, Texas, to members Brandon Herrera and Wes Virdell.

This action follows a federal court order enjoining the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives from enforcing registration requirements for suppressors, short-barreled firearms, and other designated weapons. The legal shift resulted from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed into law by Donald Trump, and a subsequent lawsuit led by Gun Owners of America.

Participants formally notified the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives of their intent before proceeding. The transfers were completed after the federal agency offered no objection to the activity.
