Xi Jinping and U.S. Extend Trade Truce During State Visit

President Xi Jinping concluded a state visit to the United States after a summit in Washington aimed at stabilizing ties between the two largest global economies. During a welcome ceremony at the White House, Xi called for sincere cooperation and stated that the two nations must avoid conflict and confrontation.

As a gesture of friendship, Xi announced that China will invite 100,000 young Americans to visit China for study and exchanges over the next five years. He also highlighted the upcoming arrival of two giant pandas, Ping Ping and Fu Shuang, at Zoo Atlanta.

The summit resulted in a two-month extension of a trade truce, which reduced immediate uncertainty regarding rare earths. While the stabilization of economic ties was welcomed by international observers, the European Union expressed concern that bilateral negotiations between Washington and Beijing might sideline the bloc during its own upcoming trade talks with China.
