State Department Revokes 300,000 Visas Under Trump Administration
The United States Department of State revoked over 300,000 visas since January 2025, citing a zero tolerance policy for fraud and criminal activity.
The United States Department of State has revoked more than 300,000 visas since Donald Trump began his second term in January 2025. State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott stated that the administration is revoking visas at a faster pace than any previous administration, citing a "zero tolerance" policy for foreign nationals who commit fraud, break the law, or undermine national security.
Revocations were triggered by criminal activity, public safety threats, and immigration violations. In 2025, a quarter of these revocations were linked to assaults, 22% to driving under the influence, 7% to theft, and 7% to substance abuse or distribution. Additionally, the department revoked at least 4,000 visas from individuals involved in birth tourism.
Alongside these revocations, the administration has implemented stricter visa granting policies. These measures include expanded screening and tightened social media vetting for applicants.
