Barack Obama Mocks Trump Administration Response to White House Joke
Barack Obama criticized the Trump administration for mobilizing a government response to his joke comparing White House decor to a Cheesecake Factory instead of addressing inflation.
Former President Barack Obama criticized the Trump administration for its reaction to a joke he made regarding the interior design of the White House. During campaign events for Georgia Democrats in Atlanta and other locations on October 28 and 29, Obama recalled joking that President Donald Trump had the White House looking like "Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory."
Obama characterized the administration's reaction as a "whole-of-government response," specifically questioning why Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was directed to appear outside a Cheesecake Factory. He argued that the administration focused on the restaurant comparison to distract from his criticisms of corruption, tariffs, and inflation. Obama stated that the focus on petty distractions demonstrates that the current administration lacks serious solutions to actual national problems.
President Donald Trump had previously responded to the joke on October 26, defending his renovations and calling Obama a "lousy president." Obama noted that while the administration reacted strongly to the Cheesecake Factory reference, it did not dispute his claims regarding rising prices for American families.
