Opposition and Clerics Accuse President Tinubu of Weaponizing State Power

Opposition leaders and religious figures have intensified their criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing his administration of prioritizing political survival over citizen welfare. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar condemned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for freezing the Osun State Government’s statutory allocation account immediately before a governorship election. He characterized the action as a weaponization of state institutions intended to punish political opponents.

Simultaneously, Chukwuemeka Cyril Ohanaemere, a cleric known as Odumeje, warned that Nigeria could divide if the president fails to provide meaningful benefits to the population. Ohanaemere criticized the president's remarks regarding historical hunger in Nigeria and alleged that individuals publicly supporting the current administration have been bribed. He further argued that government borrowing places an unfair debt burden on future generations.

Both critics pointed toward the 2027 general elections as a critical turning point. Ohanaemere asserted that the upcoming vote will determine whether the country is owned by the people or the political class, including governors and senators.
