Pierre Poilievre Campaigns for Unity Ahead of Alberta Referendum
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre will travel to Alberta to campaign for Canadian unity before a provincial referendum on separation and constitutional issues.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre will travel to Alberta to campaign for Canadian unity ahead of a provincial referendum scheduled for October 19. The referendum includes a vote on the prospect of future separation from Canada, alongside nine other questions regarding immigration and constitutional issues.
Poilievre is scheduled to deliver a speech titled "The Canadian Drift: Reclaiming Confidence, Abundance and Freedom for Alberta" at the Canada Strong and Free Network conference in Calgary on October 16. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith will also address the conference. To support these efforts, Alberta Conservative MP Dane Lloyd has been tasked with leading the federal Conservatives' unity campaign within the province.
The campaign follows comments from tech industrialist Elon Musk suggesting that Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Quebec should separate. Both Poilievre and Prime Minister Mark Carney responded by asserting that Canadians control their own destiny. Separately, Mitch Sylvestre of the Alberta Prosperity Project denied reports that separatists offered oil and water rights to the U.S. government in exchange for assistance.
