Meta Develops AI Avatar of Mark Zuckerberg for Employees

Meta is creating a photorealistic AI digital twin of CEO Mark Zuckerberg to provide real-time guidance and feedback to company staff.

Meta Platforms is developing a photorealistic, AI-powered 3D avatar of CEO Mark Zuckerberg designed to interact with the company's workforce. The project, led by Meta Superintelligence Labs, trains the digital twin on Zuckerberg's voice, images, mannerisms, and strategic thinking to simulate his presence and provide real-time feedback to employees. This initiative is distinct from a separate CEO agent intended to assist Zuckerberg with executive tasks and information retrieval.

Zuckerberg is personally overseeing the development, reportedly spending five to 10 hours per week coding and attending technical reviews. This push is part of a broader Personal Superintelligence strategy and a massive infrastructure build-out, with 2026 capital expenditures projected to reach up to $135 billion. The company also recently released Muse Spark, a proprietary closed-source AI model focusing on visual understanding and health reasoning.

The move toward AI-native tooling is intended to flatten team structures and increase productivity, though it coincides with significant organizational volatility. Meta has reportedly laid off roughly 600 people in its AI division and may implement wider cuts of up to 20% to offset infrastructure costs. Critics, including deepfake expert Henry Ajder and Synthesia executive Alexandru Voica, have questioned whether replacing executive interactions with AI avatars could damage company culture and authenticity.

Similar AI leadership clones have appeared elsewhere; Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi revealed that employees use a Dara AI to prepare presentations. While currently internal, Meta may eventually offer immersive AI character technology to influencers and creators.
