Russian Double Tap Strike Kills 55 in Komyshuvakha

Russian forces killed at least 55 people in a double tap strike in Komyshuvakha, prompting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to call for new EU sanctions.

Russian forces conducted a double tap strike in the village of Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhzhia region, killing at least 55 people. Initial guided bombs hit a former school and underground shelter where residents gathered for humanitarian aid. A subsequent drone strike targeted emergency workers responding to the scene; while no further injuries occurred, specialized rescue equipment was damaged. Approximately 50 people remain missing, and six police officers are among the dead.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack as absolute cynicism and brutality. He urged the European Union to implement a 22nd package of sanctions specifically targeting Russian missile production entities, stating that if the world cannot protect Ukrainian skies, missiles must be stopped on the production lines.

Concurrent Russian strikes on energy infrastructure in the Dnipropetrovsk region left over 600,000 people without power. Additionally, the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant lost its external power supply on Sunday, forcing the facility to rely on backup diesel generators.
