Seyi Makinde Launches MAD Movement to Reset Nigeria
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde launched the MAD Resetter Movement in Lagos, accusing President Bola Tinubu of using foreign reserve growth to mask economic distress.
Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate Seyi Makinde launched the Makinde and Daura for Better Nigeria (MAD) Resetter Movement in Lagos on October 24, 2026. During the event, Makinde accused President Bola Tinubu of using a rise in foreign reserves as a political gimmick to hide widespread hunger and economic hardship across the country.
While the Central Bank of Nigeria reported that reserves reached $55.16 billion by October 22, 2026, and the presidency cited this as evidence that reforms are working, Makinde argued that macroeconomic statistics are meaningless if they do not improve living standards. He called for a national reset of the economy, security architecture, and educational system, advocating for a return to multiparty democracy and genuine federalism.
The launch also served as a platform for the APM's Lagos governorship candidate, Adelaja Adeoye, who pledged to lead an inclusive administration free from political godfathers. Additionally, Hassan Felix, Director-General of the Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation, demanded a change in national direction, citing high unemployment and insecurity as primary drivers for the movement.
