Wang Yi Calls for Golden Decade of Mekong Cooperation
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged Mekong member nations to prioritize regional security and digital economy during the 11th LMC Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Beijing.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi co-chaired the 11th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Beijing on November 4, 2026. Alongside Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Wang Yi called for China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam to enter a new "golden decade" of cooperation.
Wang Yi urged the member nations to prioritize regional development, security, and the digital economy, specifically inviting them to join the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization. The ministers agreed to deepen cooperation in connectivity, water resources, and green innovation. They also committed to strengthening efforts to combat cross-border crime and establishing a cross-border disaster early-warning mechanism.
To maintain regional stability ahead of the fifth LMC Leaders' Meeting, Wang Yi urged member states to oppose external interference and the creation of exclusive "small circles."
