Steve Scalise Orders GOP Defense Against Democratic Investigations

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise directed Republican committee chairs on Thursday to prepare for a series of Democratic investigations targeting President Donald Trump, his family, cabinet officials, and conservative allies. In a letter to GOP leaders, Scalise urged them to take inventory of potential probes and identify likely targets to establish a line of defense before a new Democratic majority takes power.

Scalise characterized the anticipated oversight as retribution and witch hunts. Representative Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, confirmed the intent to investigate, noting that his previous correspondence provides a trail of crumbs regarding the party's plans.

This preparation effort coincides with a leadership struggle within the Republican party. Representative Jim Jordan is campaigning for top GOP leadership, positioning himself as a candidate who is battle-tested on the oversight front in competition with Scalise.
