Trump Faces Ohio Voter Backlash Over AI Data Centers

President Donald Trump is facing opposition from rural Ohio voters over AI data center development ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.

President Donald Trump is facing backlash from rural voters in Ohio over his support for AI data centers. Residents claim these facilities pollute water, create noise, and provide few local jobs. In Grove City, residents successfully forced a moratorium on data center construction and placed a city charter amendment on the ballot to require public votes on future industrial developments.

Trump has dismissed these concerns, claiming that communities rejecting such facilities will become "backward and poor." This tension is surfacing as Republicans fight to maintain control of the Senate and House of Representatives in the November 3 midterm elections. In the Ohio Senate race, Democratic challenger Sherrod Brown is attempting to capitalize on the anger by labeling Republican Senator Jon Husted as "the face of data centers."

Despite the local opposition, polls indicate that Brown and Husted are statistically tied in their race. However, Trump's own approval rating in Ohio has dropped to 38%. While Grove City Mayor Richard Stage has characterized the resident opposition as "hysteria," the political divide continues to sharpen as candidates campaign across the state.
