Florida Renames Palm Beach Airport for President Donald Trump

Palm Beach International Airport officially became the President Donald J. Trump International Airport on July 9, 2026, following state legislation signed by Governor Ron DeSantis.

Palm Beach International Airport was officially renamed the President Donald J. Trump International Airport on July 9, 2026. The change follows a February law passed by the Florida legislature and signed by Governor Ron DeSantis in March. Donald J. Trump is the first sitting president to have a U.S. airport named in his honor. To mark the occasion, Eric Trump and other family members took the inaugural flight into the hub aboard Trump Force One, landing at 5:01 a.m.

The rebranding is estimated to cost $5.5 million, with $2.75 million allocated from the state budget. While the Federal Aviation Administration updated the location identifier to DJT immediately, the passenger-facing IATA code will remain PBI until August 18 to accommodate airline requests. The renaming is tied to a licensing agreement with DTTM Operations LLC, which manages the president's intellectual property. Although the agreement prohibits direct royalties from airport merchandise, critics note that the Trump Organization has trademarked various airport-related goods.

The transition faced opposition, including lawsuits from a pilot citing safety risks and an attorney challenging the trademark license. Representative Lois Frankel described the move as misguided and unfair. Simultaneously, on July 10, officials in Tennessee renamed the I-40 bridge in Jefferson County to the President Donald J. Trump Bridge during a ceremony led by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
