Nigeria and German OEMs Partner to Revitalize Steel Sector

Minister of Steel Development Shuaibu Abubakar Audu met with a delegation of German Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in Abuja on September 25, 2026, to advance industrial cooperation. The talks focused on revitalizing Nigeria's steel sector through technology transfer, mineral processing, equipment manufacturing, and the development of local industrial value chains.
This engagement follows initial discussions held at the 9th German-African Economic Forum in Dortmund, Germany. The goal is to translate those previous talks into concrete partnerships that reduce Nigeria's dependence on imported equipment and create a sustainable industry to support infrastructure and job creation.
Dr. Chux Onaa, head of VDMA-German OEMs, stated that German companies possess technologies capable of supporting the processing of raw materials for the steel, cement, and building materials industries. The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda and the specific mandate of the recently created Ministry of Steel Development to drive sector reforms.
