James Talarico Partners With Mark Cuban To Fight Healthcare Monopolies

Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico announced a plan to dismantle healthcare monopolies and reduce the cost of prescription drugs. Partnering with entrepreneur Mark Cuban, Talarico proposes antitrust legislation targeting vertically integrated conglomerates, specifically hospital networks, insurance companies, and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs).

The proposal seeks to bar PBMs from concealing pricing data, incentivize the development of generic drugs, and cap out-of-pocket costs for patients. Talarico argues that corporate consolidation has resulted in higher premiums and the systematic buyout of small physician-owned practices.

Mark Cuban, founder of the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company, expressed support for the initiative, stating it would lower the price of medicine. Talarico is currently running against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in a Senate race that the Cook Political Report has rated as a toss-up.
