Stablecoin Market Hits $300 Billion Amid Emerging Market Deposit Flight
The global stablecoin market reached a record $300 billion capitalization, sparking warnings of $1 trillion in deposit flight from emerging market banks.
The global stablecoin market capitalization reached a record $300 billion on October 3, 2025, marking a 46.8% increase year-to-date. This growth is attributed to institutional adoption, the integration of stablecoins into payment infrastructures by firms like Visa, and regulatory clarity following Donald Trump's signing of the GENIUS Act on July 18, 2025. Market dynamics are shifting as Circle's market share grew to nearly 25% while Tether's share declined to 58.5%.
Financial institutions are monitoring the systemic impact of this surge. Standard Chartered warns that U.S. dollar-backed stablecoins could trigger a deposit flight of $1 trillion from banks in emerging economies over the next three years. This trend specifically threatens countries with currency depreciation vulnerabilities, including Egypt, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Turkey, India, China, Brazil, and South Africa.
Conversely, JPMorgan analysts project that stablecoin adoption could increase global demand for U.S. dollars by $1.4 trillion by 2027. In a high-end growth scenario, the market could reach $2 trillion, potentially reinforcing the dollar's global role and counteracting de-dollarization. Meanwhile, Eurozone finance ministers are meeting to discuss the development of euro-denominated stablecoins. Experts like Andrei Grachev note that this capital is not idle but is actively moving through markets for trading and daily payments.
