Latino Voter Support Drops for Trump Ahead of Midterms

Donald Trump faces a significant decline in Latino support due to deportation policies and economic concerns as midterm elections approach.

Recent polling indicates a sharp decline in support for Donald Trump and the Republican Party among Latino voters ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. An NBC News/Telemundo poll of 800 registered Latino voters shows Trump's approval rating at 27%, with 69% of respondents disapproving of his performance. Voters cited high costs of living and aggressive immigration enforcement as primary drivers for their dissatisfaction, with 66% stating deportation policies have gone too far.

This shift has created a 24-point lead for Democrats on the generic congressional ballot among Latino voters, with 59% preferring Democratic control of Congress. Projections suggest Democrats could win 215 House seats to the GOP's 201. Trump dismissed these findings during a rally in Dayton, Ohio, characterizing the data as fake polls that fail to account for his active campaigning.

Internal Republican friction has emerged as Representative María Elvira Salazar distanced herself from the president. Salazar released an advertisement warning that Hispanic voters feel betrayed and has advocated for the Dignity Act to provide legal status to millions of immigrants. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security and Trump rejected these efforts, with the agency stating there will be no amnesty for undocumented immigrants. While Democrats are poised to benefit from this shift, analysts suggest the trend is driven more by opposition to Trump than by increased loyalty to Democratic policies.
