Democrats and DOJ Deploy Monitors for Midterm Elections

Democrats and the Department of Justice are deploying thousands of monitors to polling sites amid concerns over potential federal interference in the midterm elections.

The Democratic Party and nonprofit watchdogs are deploying tens of thousands of monitors to polling places for the upcoming midterm elections. This mobilization follows concerns that President Donald Trump might use federal resources to interfere with the voting process. As part of these precautions, the Democratic National Committee established a cybersecurity unit to fight AI-generated misinformation and conducted tabletop exercises to simulate the seizure of ballots or the deployment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents at polls.

In response to the climate of tension, the United States Department of Justice is launching its largest-ever monitoring program, sending approximately 1,000 staff members to all states to ensure compliance with federal law. The Republican National Committee is also scaling its presence by recruiting 22,000 poll workers and appointing election integrity directors in 22 states.

While the White House and Justice Department deny any plans to deploy troops or immigration agents to polling sites, Democratic officials and groups like Common Cause, which trained 16,000 volunteers, continue to take legal and security measures to prevent voter intimidation.
