Atiku Abubakar Demands Tinubu Resign Over PFIPC Account Scandal

A legislative investigation into the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) has revealed conflicting testimonies between Nigeria's top financial authorities. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) testified before a House of Representatives ad hoc committee that it opened two domiciliary accounts for the PFIPC following authorization from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation. However, the Office of the Accountant-General later denied authorizing these accounts and alleged forgery.

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress, called for President Bola Tinubu to apologize to Nigerians and resign. He described the contradictions as a web of deception and a crisis of credibility, specifically noting that the PFIPC received 1.3 billion Naira in the 2026 budget despite the Presidency disowning the agency. He urged the National Assembly to summon the Accountant-General and the CBN Governor to testify together under oath.

Further complicating the matter, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed the committee that it rejected collaboration with the PFIPC. The ministry cited discrepancies in documents submitted by the council's self-proclaimed Director-General, Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, and stated it maintains no official relationship with the entity.
