Survey Shows Majority of US Voters Disapprove of Trump Economy

A Financial Times survey finds 53% of registered US voters believe their financial situation has deteriorated since Donald Trump returned to office.

A national survey released by the Financial Times reveals that 53% of registered U.S. voters believe their financial situation has worsened since Donald Trump returned to the White House in January 2025. Conducted by Focaldata between August 7 and 10, the poll of 1,913 voters shows a 55% overall disapproval rating for the president, which climbs to 64% regarding his management of inflation and the cost of living.

Economic indicators contributing to this sentiment include a 3.4% inflation rate as of July 2026 and rising gasoline prices linked to the U.S. conflict with Iran. The survey also notes that real wages declined in July and mortgage rates reached 6.58%. These pressures appear to be influencing the political landscape ahead of the November midterm elections, where Democrats currently hold a five-point lead over Republicans in voter intention, 44% to 39%.

White House spokesperson Kush Desai dismissed the survey results. He argued that the administration is successfully executing an affordability agenda by reducing drug prices, creating jobs, and cutting taxes, while also citing a decrease in violent crime and increased border security.
