U.S. Mint Releases Donald Trump Commemorative $1 Coin
The United States Mint released a $1 coin featuring Donald Trump to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The United States Mint released a $1 coin featuring the likeness of Donald Trump on September 2, 2026, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States. Struck in Philadelphia, the coins are available in collector rolls of 25 for $61 and bags of 100 for $154.50. A limited run of 250,000 special editions includes a July 4th privy mark, and a 24K gold proof version is planned for future release.
The design, which features the Presidential Seal on the reverse, received approval from the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts. While the coins are legal tender, the release has triggered legal debate over an 1866 law that prohibits the likeness of living people on currency.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent defended the issuance by citing historical precedents and the Circulating Collectible Coin Redesign Act of 2020. Bessent stated that the coin celebrates the strength of American values and the promise of a nation dedicated to preserving freedom for all.
