Trump Petitions Supreme Court to Revive Clinton Lawsuit

President Donald Trump is petitioneting the Supreme Court of the United States to revive a failed 2022 lawsuit against Hillary Clinton and other political figures. The original suit alleged that Clinton and former British spy Christopher Steele conspired to damage Trump's 2016 campaign by disseminating the Steele dossier, which Trump claimed violated federal racketeering laws.

Lower courts previously dismissed the case, and the Eleventh US Circuit Court of Appeals later affirmed that decision. The appellate court further upheld nearly $1 million in sanctions against Trump and his attorney, Alina Habba, characterizing the legal action as frivolous.

In a filing released July 28, Trump's legal team requested an extension until September 9 to file a writ of certiorari. The appeal specifically challenges the lower courts' ruling that the lawsuit was filed after the statute of limitations had expired, arguing that Trump's term as president should have paused that timeline.
