Osun State House of Assembly Approves State Police Amendment

The Osun State House of Assembly unanimously approved a proposed constitutional amendment on September 22, 2026, to permit the creation of state police. This resolution responds to a State Police Creation amendment bill passed by the National Assembly on June 24, 2026, which required approval from all 36 state legislatures.

Lawmakers stated that establishing state police would strengthen security architecture at state and local government levels and enable faster responses to security threats. The approved amendment will now return to the National Assembly for final approval before being sent to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assent.

During the same plenary session, the Assembly reviewed and adopted amendments to the Osun State Park Management System Bill, 2026.
