Israel Warns of Potential Military Clash With Türkiye

Israeli Diaspora Affairs Minister Amichai Chikli warned on Wednesday that a direct military confrontation between Israel and Türkiye is a possible scenario. Speaking at a conference in Jerusalem, Chikli stated that direct contact between the two militaries at sea "could happen as early as tomorrow morning."

Chikli criticized Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, accusing him of "bigotry" in his rhetoric toward Israel. The warnings follow a sharp deterioration in bilateral relations since the start of the Gaza war, which has seen both nations suspend trade and exchange mutual criticism over regional security in the Eastern Mediterranean and Syria.

Some Israeli analysts suggest that Türkiye is expanding its regional influence as Iran's position weakens. In response to these shifting dynamics, these analysts have urged Israel to strengthen its domestic military capabilities and reduce its reliance on the United States for defense procurement.
