Xi Jinping and Li Qiang Host Cambodian PM in China

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet visited China to strengthen bilateral ties and discuss potential Chinese mediation in the Cambodia-Thailand border dispute.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet visited China on July 16 and 17, 2026, to attend the World Artificial Intelligence Conference and hold high-level diplomatic meetings. In Beijing, Hun Manet met with Premier Li Qiang to discuss the Diamond Hexagon cooperation framework, the Industrial Development Corridor, and the Fish and Rice Corridor. Both leaders committed to increasing investment in the digital economy and new energy while strengthening law enforcement to combat telecom fraud and online gambling.

During the visit, Hun Manet briefed Li Qiang on frontier developments regarding the ongoing border dispute with Thailand. While Thailand prefers direct bilateral dialogue, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who also visited Beijing for the conference, stated that Bangkok is not closing the door to Chinese mediation if it helps reduce tensions. Foreign Minister Wang Yi previously expressed China's willingness to play a constructive role in the region.

On July 17, President Xi Jinping met with Hun Manet in Shanghai. Xi urged the two nations to maintain their ironclad friendship and expand their shared future community. Regarding the regional tensions, Xi stated that China supports both Cambodia and Thailand in resolving their disputes through dialogue and consultation to maintain their ceasefire.
