Nigel Farage Pledges to Protect Pensions Triple Lock
Nigel Farage announced Reform UK will campaign to maintain the pensions triple lock ahead of a predicted May snap general election.
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage announced his party will campaign as the champion of pensioners in a snap general election he predicts will occur in May. During a campaign visit to the Redcar seat, Farage pledged to maintain the pensions triple lock, contrasting his position with Labour leader Andy Burnham, who stated that Labour would end the triple lock in its current form to fund a National Care Service.
Farage argued that the government should instead cut foreign aid, migrant hotel costs, and net zero expenditures to protect pensioner pay. In Redcar, a key Red Wall constituency, Reform supporters expressed outrage over Burnham's pension plans, voicing fears that the changes would leave the state pension insufficient for basic living costs.
The campaign visit occurred while the Conservative Party held its annual conference in Birmingham. Farage claimed the Conservatives are no longer competitive in Scotland, Wales, the North, or the Midlands. He also criticized the state of public finances ahead of the October 28 Budget, warning that an exodus of high-income taxpayers would result in higher taxes for workers and savers.
